چکیده

A coextrusion process was used to fabricate macrochannelled hydroxyapatite (HA). To improve the powder characteristics, the HA powder was calcined at 900°C in air for 1 h. A feedrod composed of HA (shell) and carbon black (core) was coextruded at 120°C through a symmetric 8:1 square reduction die. After the first coextrusion, the individual pieces were bundled, warm-pressed, and then coextruded again. After removing the binder, the billet was sintered at 1350°C for 1h in air. Uniform, 27 vol% macrochannels with a diameter of 270 m were formed in the dense HA through removal of the carbon black. The compressive strength of the test specimens was strongly dependent on the macrochannel direction due to the stress concentrations related to the macrochannel geometry.

Bioceramic Scaffolds Fabrication by Rapid Prototyping Technology

This paper describes a rapid prototyping (RP) technology for forming a hydroxyapatite (HA) bone scaffold model. The HA powder and a silica sol are mixed into bioceramic slurry form under a suitable viscosity. The HA particles are embedded in the solidified silica matrix to form green parts via a wide range of process parameters after processing by selective laser sintering (SLS). The results in...

Fabrication of Porous Hydroxyapatite-Gelatin Scaffolds Crosslinked by Glutaraldehyde for Bone Tissue Engineering

In this study, to mimic the mineral and organic components of natural bone, hydroxyapatite[HA] and gelatin[GEL] composite scaffolds were prepared using the solvent-casting method combined with a freeze drying process. Glutaraldehyde[GA] was used as a cross linking agent and sodium bisulfite was used as an excess GA discharger. Using this technique, it is possible to produce scaffolds with mecha...

A citric acid-based hydroxyapatite composite for orthopedic implants.

We describe a novel approach to process bioceramic microparticles and poly(diol citrates) into bioceramic-elastomer composites for potential use in orthopedic surgery. The composite consists of the biodegradable elastomer poly(1,8-octanediol-citrate) (POC) and the bioceramic hydroxyapatite (HA). The objective of this work was to characterize POC-HA composites and assess the feasibility of fabri...
